Maintenance Hole Covers

Has anyone had success at implementing alternative lid lifters for removing maintenance hole covers (aka man hole covers)?  We currently have lid lifters that greatly reduce the load applied to the back but the team members continue to use their pick axe as their tool of choice as it tends to more convenient and faster.  I am curious to hear if an alternative to the pick axe has had a successful acceptance and uptake in the field.
