Hello
Our organization is currently reviewing our ER department and implementing LEAN initiatives. Out of this we are decreasing the clutter and increasing the efficiency when looking for supplies in our rooms by having a patient care cart in every room with the necessary supplies required that is moveable.
We want to make sure that we have considered ergonomics when deciding on the type of cart. We have a few samples floating around for trial. Is there any information out there that can help us determine ergonomic risk associated with styles?
We have the drawer heights, handle heights and width, push/pull forces, weight of items within drawers and estimated frequency of opening drawers (harder to get when dealing with non cyclical jobs). Would you recommend a specific ergonomic tool for assessment? Also as is in most nursing positions we are predomiently female. Would you base your recommendations on the 75 percentile for a female?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
